Computer classes

Beginning in the Fall of 2012, the Library now offers eight different computer classes. We want to make them available to the public free of charge. However, we do require a $10 deposit to hold a spot in the class. Participants who show up for the scheduled class will receive the deposit back. Also, participants who sign up for the class but are unable to make it will receive the deposit back ONLY if they call at least an hour before the scheduled class to cancel.
Each class is 1½ hours long. Class space is limited, so registration is required.

Following is a list of the classes offered:

Basic Computer Skills
Participants will become familiar with the basics of working on a computer, including how to turn the machine on and off. This class is perfect for absolute beginners.

Intermediate Computer Skills
This class is designed primarily for those who have used a computer but want to expand their knowledge. We will discuss and explore CDS and flash drives, file formats, Control Panel functions, Task Manager and how to back up a pc.

 Microsoft Word
In addition to learning the basics of how to create a document, participants can learn more complex features of the program such as creating columns and tables, adding and editing images, and setting up a personal resume.

Introductory Internet
Beginners will explore the Internet by searching, using links, visiting specific websites and learning how to safely shop online.

 Intermediate Internet
For more experienced Internet users, learn about using tabs, running updates, malware, antivirus protection, and take a peek at Facebook.

 Email
Participants will set up a free web-based email account and learn how to use it.

How to Sell on Ebay
In this class, participants will register on Ebay, set up an account with PayPal, and learn how to list an auction. For those who aren’t necessarily ready to create the accounts, feel free to simply observe.

What to do with Your Digital Photos
In this 2 hour class, participants will take a picture with their camera, upload it to a computer and edit it. We will also learn about web-based photo storage sites.
Please note, participants will get a lot more out of this class if they bring their own digital camera, the USB cord that came with it (or you may purchase a memory card reader instead) and the software disk that came with their camera.

These classes are scheduled on Thursday afternoons and Saturday afternoons from October through April each year. Classes shut down during the summer months due to high demand for computers as well as to prepare for the summer reading program.

Class space is limited, so if you're interested in any of these classes, please come into the Library to fill out a registration form and drop off your deposit.
